It was an easy but difficult read. A real eye opener. I would have liked more discussion on the biology of behavior. Also more discussion when planning on disability in regards to child birth, child care, fertility planning as these are big financial stressors especially for female physicians. Short term disability, financial effects of maternity leave bed rest, working part time etc. also the effect of divorce or choice of partner on finances. Repeatedly physician financial experts say live like a resident but the decision to start or grow a family is definitely emotion driven and costly. If I was a single unmarried women in residency then get married and have multiple children as an attending it would be difficult to save money, make time to find vet a financial dream team, investigate investments.
I do appreciate the simple lay out of the book and the practical advice. I think it is meant to provoke the reader to start self reflection and make their own plan with a dream team. Can you summarize at the end who you think the financial team should consist of? Also how to tell good v bad ones. Also what are your thoughts on loan repayment programs?
Thank you for your thoughtful critique, Nneka! Very helpful. Your comments will be integrated.i
Each career stage comes with its own specific challenges. I'm wondering about custom versions of the book for the different groups of physicians. Top of the list will be women in early stages of their careers.
My thoughts about loan repayment...know your options. Frame loan repayment in the context of your bigger wealth-building plan. The new tax law brings changes with the overall strategies.
Here's the one big thing about wealth-building. Pay attention to taxes.. This is critical.
